Modernize deliberately.
Move from legacy systems to adaptable cloud platforms without losing sight of operational risk or business constraints.
TRAVIS HUTTO / PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
I'm a technology leader and hands-on engineer who has spent a career moving between software, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and the people who make complex systems work.
What connects those disciplines is simple: understand the problem, build something sustainable, and make the next person more capable.
Software engineering → Architecture → Technology leadership
WHAT I FOCUS ON
My work has grown from building individual services to helping engineering organizations navigate changes in technology, architecture, reliability, and the way teams operate.
Move from legacy systems to adaptable cloud platforms without losing sight of operational risk or business constraints.
Build shared tools, infrastructure patterns, and delivery practices that let teams spend less time on repeated work.
Treat reliability, security, and incident response as ongoing engineering practices rather than one-time projects.
Develop engineers and managers, clarify ownership, and create teams that can make good decisions independently.
WHERE I'VE WORKED
I've worked through the same kinds of problems from different angles: first as an engineer building the solution, and later as a leader building the team and environment around it.
Lead cloud and platform engineering, site reliability, and product engineering teams. Partner with technology and business leadership on architecture, modernization, delivery, and the development of engineering leaders.
Developed cloud engineering and reliability capabilities while guiding a broad transition away from legacy infrastructure and toward more maintainable cloud operations.
Created reusable cloud infrastructure and deployment foundations, worked across product teams on engineering architecture, and helped establish the practices that supported larger modernization efforts.
Designed and built services, APIs, shared components, and cloud-native systems, contributing to broader AWS adoption and application modernization.
Led a small development team building business software and modernizing legacy application and payment-processing integrations.
Built practical web and asset-management tools while supporting day-to-day technology needs across the business.
WHAT TIES IT TOGETHER
I've never seen technical depth and leadership as opposing paths. Architecture decisions affect people, and organizational decisions affect systems. Understanding both sides helps me make practical trade-offs and build teams that don't depend on one person knowing everything.

HOW I WORK
Technology changes. The discipline of understanding a problem and helping people solve it well is more durable.
01 / Start with the problem.
Understand constraints, users, risks, and the outcome before chasing a tool or fashionable architecture.
02 / Make trade-offs visible.
Explain decisions clearly enough that technical and nontechnical partners can evaluate what matters.
03 / Leave capability behind.
Build reusable foundations and help people grow so improvement continues after the initial delivery.
